How to Care for Leather Goods in a Tropical Climate

Fabio La Rosa holds a PhD in quantitative finance and financial econometrics from the London School of Economics and is the owner of NOVAL, a leading real estate development company based in the Dominican Republic. Under the leadership of Fabio La Rosa, NOVAL has developed numerous luxurious commercial and residential properties in this tropical destination.

Tropical climates can damage leather items more quickly than cooler, drier climates due to heat, moisture, and mold. Here are some tips on how to care for leather goods in locations that experience warm, humid weather conditions.

1. Use a dehumidifier or air conditioner. Electric dehumidifiers work to maintain humidity levels below 40 percent, which helps prevent moisture from damaging your leather items. Running an air conditioner for at least one hour per day in an area where your leather items are stored also assists with reducing humidity and preventing mold growth.

2. Store leather items properly. Use a dehumidifier box, such as a Hungry Hippo, to keep your leather clothes and accessories, but don’t use plastic bags for storage, since this encourages moisture accumulation inside.

3. Clean your leather items with clove oil. This essential oil can be mixed with water and lightly sprayed or wiped onto leather goods to cleanse them and remove mold. Before cleaning an entire item with clove oil, test a small spot to ensure it will not stain.

Financial Benefits of Investing in a Condominium Property

Fabio La Rosa brings more than a decade of experience to his position as the founder and CEO of Noval. Mr. La Rosa directs Noval in areas of construction, engineering, and project management and has led residential and commercial development projects in the Dominican Republic. Residential projects undertaken by Fabio La Rosa’s company include condominiums, which can be beneficial financial investments.

Purchasing a condominium may be ideal for those who prefer to limit the amount of money they invest into a down payment. First-time home buyers are typically young, starting their careers, and looking for an affordable investment.

Retirees may also benefit from buying a condominium with a low down payment. After downsizing from a large property to a condo. retirees are left with access to more of their money.

Condominiums typically offer a variety of amenities, such as pools and workout rooms, features that would cost far more to build onto an independent home than the amount owners pay in condo fees. Condo property values also increase over time as improvements are made to the premises. Since maintenance and repair fees are shared among many residents, owners spend less than they would on upkeep for a stand-alone home.
